  • Business Edition and Deluxe or Premium - compatibility?

I am currently running Money 2004 Deluxe for my personal finances. I
have just purchased Money Small Business 2005 in order to handle the
accounts for my wife's small business.
I'm not entirely sure that the Small Business version will do what she
    needs (there's no trial version).
    Two questions:
    1) Can both Deluxe 2004 and Small Business 2005 coexist on the same PC?
I would prefer not to switch my personal finances over to the Small
Business version until I am more comfortable with it.
    2) If I decide the Small Business version does not meet my needs, I will
probably want to revert to using Deluxe in future releases (no point in
paying the extra money for Small Business if I'm not using it). I know
that any 2004 version will not be able to read files created (or
converted) by any 2005 version, but will Deluxe (or Premium) 2005 be
able to read the files created (or converted) by Small Business 2005?
    Thanks ... Mike

You can run both on the same machine, although you can't have an instance of
2005 running at exactly the same time as an instance of 2004. You'll need to
install the 2005 version in a different directory, and note that file
associations will be attached to the 2005 version, so will need to open the
2004 version from the start menu.

It should be possible to use a 2005 business version in 2005 deluxe. You'll
probably get a warning though saying the business stuff is not available.
However, i've not tried the exact scenario in 2005.

Thanks Glyn for the information. I'm starting to get cold feet about the
2005 version based on reading here, but that's another topic ;-)

Well, you can always try the trial first to get a flavour of what it's like.

Unfortunately there's no trial of the Small Business edition. If it
weren't for needing the SB edition I wouldn't have even considered
    upgrading to 2005 from 2004.

Hmm, I wonder if I could buy a *legit* copy of 2004 Small Business cheap?

well, I really meant a 2005 trial (not specifically the business version -
there has never been a trial of that version as long as I remember), but as
you need the SB version then that's not a solution. If you mean the 2005 SB
version cheap (not the 2004 version), the I don't know what your definition
of cheap is, but Amazon is $52.99 after rebates
    (http://www.amazon.com/gp/associates/link-types/marketplace.html?t=microsoftmone-20&asin=B0002D1522).
Other sellers may have it cheaper.

I haven't seen the SB version (and being located in the UK, it's not
relevant for me) so can't really answer any questions about it.

I meant the 2004 (not 2005) Small Business version cheap (being out of
date, one would expect it to be cheaper than the current version).

I got a fairly good price on 2005 SB, but I am thinking of sticking with
2004 based on all the negative feedback on 2005 (I currently have deluxe
2004 and am not experiencing major problems with it) but need Small
    Business).

I should have read the feedback here before buying, but I was at Comp
USA and got suckered in to an impulse buy by the extra $20 off "today
only" (meaning if I ever get the rebate from MS it will have worked out
    to $50).

One of my other concerns is that, given MS' track record with Money and
the fact that very few people buy the Small Business version compared to
the other versions, the business-specific features may be even less
    reliable than the core features.

I think I'm rapidly talking myself into just using Access to do what I
    need :-(

Mike, my take on the "2005 issues" is that the big killers are to do with
Yodlee and downloads. If you download direct from your Bank then I don't
believe you will suffer the majority of the problems posted. I am not saying
that 2005 is squeaky clean but as many posters have said "don't use
    downloads".

That's encouraging Bob, thanks. The only downloading I do with 2004 is
stock prices and program updates, so maybe things will be OK.

Mike, that is exactly what I do and - fingers crossed - no problems at all.

OK I bemoan the fact that the darn thing insists on going on-line whenever
it wants to download currency rates and share prices - whereas I only want
share prices once a week - they are my long term investment and I certainly
    don't want/need anything more frequent.
